“In this woodcut, Kubinyi’s title and the image itself seem intended to evoke religious themes. Rays of light cascade from a dark sky onto a peaceful nude man, transforming the clouds beyond into a representation of the heavens. The man’s confident posture and calm expression suggest a sense of ease, much like the innocence of Adam and Eve from the Christian Bible, whose story the print’s title directly references. The coastal landscape and bountiful plants around the figure similarly evoke a primordial world.”
