Curatorial Overview

Meyerbeer's operas were the most frequently performed works in Paris and throughout Europe. This portrait of the composer is signed “Nadar jeune” or “Nadar the younger.” Adrien Tournachon was the younger, less successful brother of the famed photographer Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, known as Nadar.
